Research Library

The main objective of the Library and documentation section is to acquire, catalogue, classify, organize and preserve all available information to support research and development activities of the Institute.
The library’s collections include books, journals, manuscripts, reprints, maps, technical reports, edited research reports, approved consultancy reports, Theses, etc.

User Services includes

  • Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI)
  • Referral Services
  • Scanning of Documents
  • Interlibrary Lending and Document Delivery

Major Achievement

Our major achievement has been linkages with international organizations such as UNESCO, FAO, WMO, IAHS. Benefits derived from these linkages include access to a number of electronic journals free of charge and exchange of publications.

ICT Section

The objective of the ICT Section is;

To provide ICT services as well as ICT strategies for a sustainable development for advancement of the Institute.

To manage the website (www.wri.csir.org.gh) to provide services in terms of Information, Communication and Marketing on the international super highway.

Marketing Section

This Section has the objective;

To sell more products and services to existing and potential clients.

To advertise the Institute’s laboratory analytical services to increase client patronage through Mass Media for visibility enhancement.

Provision of services
  • Provide Client database
  • Face-to-face meeting with clients to find out their level of expectations
  • Develop a list of current products and services rendered by the various Divisions.
  • Monitor product/ service performance
Public Relations Section

This Section has the objective;

To raise awareness of the Institute’s products and services.

To develop a consistent image of which the public can relate to.

To create more public involvement by scheduling more special events.

Establish viable working partnerships with businesses, industries and organizations.

Increase positive public recognition, enthusiasm and support for WRI as a leader in delivering quality laboratory services.

 

Consultancy and Advisory Services

Consultancy and advisory services were carried out by the Institute for various donor agencies, corporate bodies, governmental and non-governmental organizations, universities and polytechnics, public and private sector institutions as well as individuals. The significant ones included:

  • Advisory services on hydrology – DECCMA project (Client: RIPS, University of Ghana)
  • Advisory services on how to avoid microbial contamination of water sources (Client: Sachet water producers)
  • Water quality analysis (Client: Sachet water producers and students)
  • Borehole water quality analysis (Client: Heisa Eng. New Energy)
  • Advisory services on pond and cage culture of Nile Tilapia (Clients: Smallholder fish farmers in Northern Ghana)
  • Advisory and Technical support on pond culture of Nile Tilapia (Client: White Horse Kilimo Manjaro Company, Tamale)
  • Formulation and preparation of farm-made tilapia diets (Clients: Fish farmers)
  • Baseline study of biodiversity of fish of the rivers in Northern Ghana (Client: Environmental Protection Agency)
  • Assessment for irrigation project with respect to depth to water table at Janga and Nasia (West Mamprusi District), Dipale (Savelugu District) and Lingbunga (Tolon District) for Sugar Cane Plantation (Client: Hippo Limited)
  • Provision of Consultancy Services to carry out wet and dry season groundwater monitoring services (Client: Newmont Gold Ghana Limited)
  • Ecological study of the water storage facility at the Akyem Mine (Client: Newmont Golden Ridge Ltd.)
