Dr. Sylvester Afram Boadi is a Principal Technologist (Water and Climate Change Adaptation) at the Surface Water and Climate Change Division (SWCCD) of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research – Water Research Institute (CSIR-WRI). Sylvester holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography and Resource Development and a Master of Philosophy in Climate Change and Sustainable Development from the University of Ghana, Legon. He obtained his PhD in Geography and Resource Development from the University of Ghana, Legon, and in Environmental and Resource Economics from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark.
Sylvester undertakes research on water, agriculture, and climate change adaptation, with a focus on both the biophysical and socio-economic aspects. His specific areas of research concentration span issues of climate variability and change impacts on water and agriculture including ENSO-induced variability, and adaptation options within these sectors. Sylvester also works in the areas of measuring and valuing ecosystems services (both water and forest ecosystem services), climate and agricultural risks, and their associated management and adaptation options.
Research Interests
Climate change impacts on water resources and agriculture; climate change and agricultural risks; El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) teleconnections on rainfall, droughts and streamflow; climate-smart agriculture; sustainability options for water, agriculture and energy systems development; adaptation options in the water and agriculture sectors.
