The CSIR–Water Research Institute (CSIR-WRI) welcomed the FHI 360 STRIDES (Strengthening Infectious Disease Detection Systems) Project team during a stakeholder engagement visit to the Institute on 25 September 2026.

Following an earlier scoping visit, the FHI 360 team returned to CSIR-WRI to provide a deeper briefing on the STRIDES Project and explore areas where both institutions can collaborate to strengthen infectious disease detection and preparedness in Ghana.

🤝 Exploring opportunities for collaboration

The engagement with the Director and staff of CSIR-WRI provided an opportunity for the STRIDES team to share insights into the project’s objectives, geographic focus and planned areas of implementation.

Discussions focused on opportunities for collaboration and coordination with ongoing national and regional initiatives, particularly in areas including:

* 🔬 Infectious disease detection

* 🦠 Outbreak preparedness and response

* 🧪 Laboratory systems strengthening

* 💊 Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance

* 🌍 Global Health Security

The discussions highlighted the importance of partnerships that bring together scientific expertise, laboratory capabilities and national health-security priorities.

🧪 A closer look at CSIR-WRI’s laboratory capabilities

As part of the visit, the FHI 360 team toured relevant laboratory facilities at CSIR-WRI.

The tour offered the visiting team an opportunity to gain first-hand insight into the Institute’s laboratory infrastructure, technical capabilities and areas of scientific work.

It also provided a platform for both teams to exchange experiences and identify potential areas for future collaboration.

Strong infectious disease surveillance and laboratory systems are critical to the country’s ability to detect threats early, understand emerging risks and respond effectively to outbreaks.
